A number of documents, books, publications and albums showing how the relations and cooperation between Moldova and the European Union developed were exhibited at the National Library on May 8. The exhibit was mounted in connection with the celebration of Europe Day in Moldova and the European Year of Cultural Heritage, IPN reports.

The event was organized by the Pro-European Services and Communication Center of the National Library. Besides the traditional collections of books and materials, the Center developed a system of blogs that meets the needs of beneficiaries who prefer to collect information online. The exhibited documents contain the whole range of information about the European idea and course.

National Library director Elena Pintilei said the people in this exhibition will find albums from the National Library’s collections centering on the tourist itineraries of the European Union. In the course of the year, the library managed to implement European projects and to sign a series of partnership agreements with a number of libraries in the European area. “The National Library, by the events it stages during the year, aligns with the European policies as part of such an important objective as the Europeanization of the National Library,” stated Elena Pintilei.

European information expert Lilia Snegureac, head of the Dialog-Pro Resource Center, said the people should inform themselves about the EU as this is a real example of democracy.

Daniela Cujba, division head at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said the library is more than a reading hall. It is an area of knowledge and promotion of values, including the European ones. The EU is an area of pluralism, freedom of movement and a solid economy in continuous development.

Orest Dabija, division head at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, noted it is important that the European values be cultivated since childhood as, beyond the economic advantages, there is also the cultural aspect that makes the people accept the European values.

Fabien Schaeffer, education and culture projects manager at the EU Delegation to Moldova, invited the people to take part in the activities that will be staged at the European Town in the central park of Chisinau this weekend.

The exhibition will continue until May 31.
