Moldova’s economic development depends on how secure the state is. State investments don’t flow in when a state hosts occupation troops on its soil. This was stated by security expert Rosian Vasiloi, duringa talk show on 10TV, IPN reports.

“When we speak of security, we don’t need to buy nuclear weapons, rather to develop the capacities of state institutions to act when necessary, something it currently cannot do,” the expert stated. According to him, Moldova – lack of military doctrine aside – doesn’t have a national security strategy, which creates a series of issues in this field. Furthermore, the expert believes the army budget should increase.

“As long as we only throw around ideas and statements of national reintegration, but we don’t do anything about it, nothing will change,” the expert says. According to him, moreover, Moldova procures its electricity from Transnistria – aiding businesses that don’t contribute anything to the state budget – and later wonders why they have state-of-the-art drones that are used, among other things, to spy the so-called Tranistrian border.

Antimafia Movement leader Sergiu Mocanu believes Moldova doesn’t need a bigger army budget, but a clear political concept of the state. “Moldova doesn’t need to increase military spending to react at Russia’s actions in Transnistria, as we could spend two extra national budgets and still lack Russia’s operation capacity. We will waste our resources,” said Sergiu Mocanu.

The military exercises held by the Russian Federation in Transnistria are initiated to bait certain experts, considers Sergiu Mocanu. In his opinion, the problem should be solved politically. “We need to clearly state who we are. We have a Constitution that doesn’t correspond to the reality. We must integrate into Romania, the EU, and NATO, with the territories we control. The Transnistrian issue must become one of regional and international security,” the politician stated.

The UN General Assembly has voted on June 23 the Resolution on “Complete and unconditional withdrawal of foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova”, which has been drafted by Moldova, with co-authors from 11 other states.
