The partners for development of Moldova expressed their readiness to technically and financially support the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) since the moment it is adopted at the meeting of the foreign donors (UN, the World Bank, USAID, the European Commission’s Delegation, SIDA, DFID and others) on October 25. According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Moldova’s partners for development praised the Ministry for its efforts to organise debates with the participation of the civil society for finalising the NDP. At the meeting, Moldovan officials reported how the National Development Plan was drafted and finalised. Natalia Catrinescu, head of the Economy Ministry’s General Macroeconomic Policy and Development Programmes, informed the donors that the 25 public debates held between June-October 2007 were attended by about 1,500 representatives of the local and central public administration, academic circles, private sector, NGOs, mass media, trade unions and by ordinary people. According to Natalia Catrinescu, the Ministry of Economy and Trade received about 100 commentaries and proposals on how to improve the National Development Plan. A large part of these were inserted in the document’s text. The National Development Plan is a medium-term strategic document that will continue the reforms initiated by the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy and by the EU-Moldova Action Plan, whose implementation period expires at the end of 2007 and at the start of 2008 respectively.
