Two employees of the Dubăsari Police Inspectorate were arrested by the Transnistrian forces on July 15. They were stopped in traffic by representatives of the MGB (self-styled Ministry of State Security) on the road between Doroțcaia and Grigoriopol and were taken by force to the Ministry’s head office in Grigoriopol. Moldova’s delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) condemned these actions as absolutely illegal and, alongside the national authorities, initiated the necessary measures to obtain the unconditional release of the two citizens, IPN reports.

According to JCC, the serious incident involving two employees of the Dubăsari Police Inspectorate that occurred in the Security Zone when the Joint Control Commission was having a meeting showed that Tiraspol fully defies the peacekeeping operations on the Nistru and the basic human rights.

In the JCC’s meeting held in Bender, Moldova’s delegation reiterated the necessity of examining the illegal presence of so-called “border guards” in the Security Zone as elements of risk to the free movement and other basic rights of the citizens. It brought back into focus the necessity of analyzing the situation created in the Security Zone after May 1, 2019, when the Transnistrian side illegally supplemented the number of “border guards”. In the July 15 meeting, the representatives of the Russian Federation said they are not ready to discuss the issue that they initiated themselves, invoking the necessity of having additional consultations. The representatives of Tiraspol categorically refused to discuss the problem.

The Commission managed to adopt a plan of action aimed at improving the conditions of the service at the joint peacekeeping forces based near Vadul lui Vodă town. As a result of the actions that will be taken until the end of this year, the peacekeeping post situated on the left side of the Nistru will be relocated so as to unblock circulation on the  Coșnița – Bălăbănești road and to  remove the obstacles to the movement of citizens and motor vehicles.
