The civil society from Moldova is not sufficiently involved in the decision-making process, and certain citizens do not know their rights an get into different risky situations. These theme was broached Friday at a forum of the regional NGOs network from eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The head of the Moldovan office of UNFPA, Boris Galca, has told the attendees Moldova needs to increase the involvement of the civil society and the public in settling problems, since participation is a key element in human development.
According to the president of the U.S. Global Education for Population NGO, Werner Fornos, some Moldovans are disadvantaged in terms of opportunities to participate in making decisions, and it is necessary to insure the fair access and equal chances.
Youths and women should be involved more actively in civil affairs through pilot-mechanisms related to the participating process of making decisions and promoting human rights, Werner Fornos specifies.
Although Moldova does have laws on defending human rights, the most vulnerable categories are extremely poor people, children and youths in risk-related situations, the victims of violence, abusing and exploiting elderly people, says the international expert.
The forum is attended by experts from the U.S.A., Hungary, the Czech Rep., Slovakia, Poland, Estonia, India, Costa Rica, Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Moldova.
The event to end on October 18 is organized by the U.S. Global Education for Population NGO jointly with the UNFPA office.
