Moldova’s Artiom Pipa becomes Junior European Weightlifting Champion

Moldova’s junior weight lifter Artiom Pipa won on Thursday the European Champion title in the 56kg division in the Albanian town of Durres, Info-Prim Neo reports. This is the third medal won by the Moldovan athletes at the European Championship after 15-year-old Cristina Iovu pulled off a double – a silver medal and a bronze medal– the day before. Over the next days, the coaching staff headed by Olympic champion Tudor Casapu and Leonid Volneanschi will be assisting athletes Alexandru Shpac (62kg), Adrian Barca (77kg) and Alexandru Shatalenco (85kg) on their road to the Championship heights. Last year the Moldovan weight lifters (juniors, youths and seniors) won 24 medals at the World and European Championships. The Junior European Weightlifting Championship in Albania will run through September 21.
