The quantities of Moldovan apples exported to the Russian Federation over the last four years decreased from 250,000 tonnes in 2019 to 160,000 tonnes at the beginning of this December, said Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Rosselkhoznadzor.

After imposing a number of bans, on December 1 Rosselkhoznadzor decided to life the ban on the import of apples from 20 Moldovan enterprises. Another 12 enterprises were allowed to export to Russia on December 2. Dissatisfied with such a decision, the Horticultural Association of Russia called on Prime Minister Mihail Mishustin to limit apple imports from Moldova. This argued a record apple harvest was stored in Russia this year and can be sold until the summer of 2023.

Meanwhile, Moldova has diversified its fruit export markets and this year exported large quantities of apples to Libya, Malaysia, Armenia, and Bulgaria. For the first time, Moldova exported apples to Germany and Finland. In January-June this year, Moldova’s exports to Germany came to 60 tonnes, while to Finland to 20 tonnes, said the Fruit Producers and Exporters Association “Moldova Fruct”.
