Moldova’s accession to EU is not possible at present – French MP

Two reasons are hindering Moldova’s European integration at present. One related to the internal situation of EU, second – Moldova’s, French MP Loic Bouvard, the chairman of the friendship Group Moldova-France told within the speech delivered to the Moldovan MPs. According to him, the fast enlargement of EU, from 6 to 27 members creates serious problems within EU. According to Bouvard, the second reason is the internal economic and social situation of Moldova. Although Moldova started to adjust its legislation to the European standards, there is still much to do, French MP said. Moldova needs foreign investments and actions which would improve the infrastructure, the official stated. As regards the Transnistrian problem, the French MP said that only international negotiations can lead to a satisfying solution. France will try to make everything possible to reach an agreement in this respect and it will not accept by any means partition of Moldova, Loic Bouvard concluded. Within the frameworks of its visit to Chisinau, the French delegation met with the speaker of the Parliament Marian Lupu. It has emphasised the fact that France will support Moldova at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, including on passing from the monitoring stage to the post-monitoring one. “Moldova is a is a part of the European culture, and its place is in Europe”, the French MPs emphasised. The parties welcomed the visit of the Chairman of the French Senate Christian Poncelet planned for April 2007. The delegation of the Friendship Group of France – Moldova within the National Assembly of the French Republic is paying a visit to Moldova during February 14-16. The programme of the visit includes meetings with the president Vladimir Voronin and PM Vasile Tarlev. On Thursday, the chairman of the Friendship Group of France – Moldova will be offered the Honoris Causa Doctor title.
