Immediately after the Republic of Moldova implements the nine recommendations, the accession negotiations with the EU should start, in the course of this year, Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan stated in the European Parliament, IPN reports.
Siegfried Mureșan noted that to be able to live in safety and security within the borders of the European Union, its immediate neighboring countries should be safe and stable. The Republic of Moldova neighbors the EU and Ukraine. Therefore, a pro-European Republic of Moldova is goods for the Moldovan citizens, but is also important for the European Union and for Ukraine.
“We know that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova want the European integration. We know that the current authorities in Chisinau – the President, government and parliamentary majority – want the European integrating. We also know who does not want this – the Russian Federation and the oligarchs who were used to controlling the business community, the political arena and the mass media in the Republic of Moldova the last years. What should we do therefore? We should further help the Republic of Moldova. First of all, we must help the Republic of Moldova financially so that the authorities could help the citizens and enterprises overcome this period,” noted the MEP.
According to him, immediately after the nine reforms are done, the accession negotiations between Moldova and the EU should start. “We need to liberalize trade so that the Republic of Moldova, in the same way as Ukraine, could export more to us, could develop its economy,” stated Siegfried Mureșan.
He also said that before the accession becomes possible, as this is a process that will last for several years, the Republic of Moldova should be integrated into the internal market of the EU because this will bring benefits to the people.
