Moldovans working abroad send less money home

The remittances sent home by the Moldovans that work abroad through banks continue to decrease. In July, remittances totaled $180.79 million, while in November $111.03 million, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the National Bank of Moldova. Remittances during January-November last year came to $1.509 billion. The Ministry of Economy and Trade forecast that this year the remittances would drop by $300-350 million. Over the past four years, the remittances sent by the Moldovans working abroad rose by 40.5% a year. According to the central bank, they increased thrice – from $317.29 million in 2003 to 1.218,30 billion in 2007.
