The Moldovans will soon become by 30% poorer owing to the events that took place at Banca de Economii (BEM), economic expert Natan Garstea said in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

According to the expert, namely because of the theft at Banca de Economii the national currency depreciated so swiftly. “A large quantity of foreign currency was bought from the Moldovan market with the money stolen from the BEM. The money was then converted and transferred abroad,” he said.

Natan Garstea also said that the electricity tariffs, the prices of food products, drugs and services and the transport fares will be raised in one month or two months at most. “The prices will grow, but the salaries will not, especially because we are in February and we do not yet have a budget for this year,” he stated.

Politician and political commentator Nicolae Chirtoaca said the fraud committed at Banca de Economii represents a serious blow to the country’s financial security. The future Prime Minister of Moldova cannot be envied given the very gloomy forecasts. Iurie Leanca was sacrificed by the PLDM and PDM, being left to convince the MPs to vote for him by himself.

Journalist Vasile Botnaru said the situation of Leanca is not at all enviable. “Leanca probably accepted to run for another term in office in order to correct the mistakes made in the case of Banca de Economii and the Chisinau Airport,” he stated.
