The Commission for Exceptional Situations made changes to its previous decision that obliges the Moldovans who return home by plane during the state of emergency to purchase a health insurance policy in fixed amount before getting onto the aircraft. Now the persons who cross the state border by air or road to enter Moldova will mandatorily fill out and sign an own responsibility statement by which they will undertake to buy health insurance for 2020, IPN reports.

The measure that imposes the obligation to purchase health insurance when entering the country was approved in the March 31 meeting of the Commission for Exceptional Situations and took effect on April 1.

The ombudsman described the measure as disproportionate during the state of emergency and recommended reviewing the decision. The measure was also criticized by politicians. The Action and Solidarity Party appealed the Commission’s decision to court.

In a press briefing, President Igor Dodon said the 14-day treatment for a person with COVID-19 costs 32,000 lei. When the patient is in critical condition and is in intensive care, the costs rise to 78,000 lei. Everyone should know about these costs, including those who criticize the obligation to purchase a health insurance policy, he noted.
