Moldovans use most of incomes for food

The Moldovan population’s disposable incomes in the first quarter of 2013 were 1,559.8 lei on average per person a month, up 8.5% compared with the corresponding period last year. In real terms, with adjustment to the consumer price index, the population’s incomes rose by 3.9%, IPN reports.

As in the previous periods, the salary was the most important source of income. The salaries accounted for 42.5% of the available incomes. But their contribution decreased by 1.4% compared with the first quarter of 2012. The contribution of the state benefits to forming the incomes was 19.4%, up 1% on last year.

Remittances from abroad remain an important source for the households’ budget. They represented 16.6% of the total incomes, while their contribution was by 1.1% greater than in January-March last year. The rural population is more dependent on remittances, which represent 21% of their incomes.

The revenues from other activities constituted 15.5% of the population’s incomes, including 9.1% from individual agricultural activities, while 6.4% from individual non-agricultural activities.

The urban population’s incomes were by 787.1 lei higher compared with the incomes of villagers.

The average monthly consumption costs in the first quarter of this year totaled 1,656.1 lei on average per person, an increase of 9.6% compared with the same period last year. In real terms, the population spent by 5.0% more than in the first quarter of 2012.

The costs for food represented 43.4%, for maintaining the house – 18.3%, for clothes and footwear - 9.6%, for health – 6.7%, for transport – 4.6%, for communication – 4.5%, while for education – 0.8%.

In urban areas, the consumption costs were 1,993 lei per person, by 589 lei more than in rural areas.
