Moldovans spoke over 4.5bn minutes over mobile phone in nine months

The Moldovans in the first ninth months of this year spoke over 4.5 billion minutes over the mobile phone, shows the statistical data of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), IPN reports.

The total volume of traffic in the mobile networks increased by 9.7% compared with the corresponding period last year. The number of SMSes rose by 83.5% to over 887.6 million. According to the data provided by the three mobile phone carriers Orange Moldova, Moldcell and Moldtelecom (Unite), the average monthly volume of mobile phone traffic per user grew by 6.1% to 208 minutes or three hours and almost a half.

The total revenues of the three carriers rose by 0.1% to over 2.6 billion lei. The rise is due to SA Moldcell, which increased its sales by over 3% to 683.4 million lei. The revenues of SA Moldtelecom fell by 4.3% to 94.2 million lei, while of SA Orange Moldova – by 0.7% to 1.87 billion lei. The average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) decreased by 4.3% to 66.3 lei. The ARPU of Orange Moldova was 82.9 lei, of SA Moldcell– 48 lei, while of SA Moldtelecom– 30.2 lei.

The total number of mobile phone users fell by 43,300 (-1%) to 4.3 million lei comparted with the end of 2013, while the mobile phone penetration rate per 100 people diminished by about 1.2% to 123.3%.

On October 1, 2014, the largest market share by turnover was held by Orange Moldova – 70.6%. Moldcell had a share of 25.8%, while Moldtelecom of 3.6%.
