Traditions of the Slovak Republic will be shown in Chisinau and Comrat on May 12 and 19 on the occasion of Europe Days in Moldova. Slovakia’s honorific consul Iurie Popovich has told Info-Prim Neo that informational stands will be set up within the “European Village”. “We will present different materials about Slovakia, especially about the country’s involvement in different projects implemented in concert with the Comrat authorities,” said Iurie Popovich. According to the official, Europe Day is a new holiday that started to be marked when Slovakia joined the EU in 2004. The people are glad when this day approaches as life got another quality when Slovakia joined the EU and became a member of the European family. Iurie Popovich said the people in Slovakia are mostly like those in Moldova, except that the time and circumstances made them perceive life slightly differently. The Slovak people celebrate Europe Day almost the same way as the Moldovan people, especially now that this holiday became global. There are staged different fairs, including of books and traditional objects typical of the Slovak people. The Slovak official believes that if the Moldovan people and authorities really want to become part of the EU, they will achieve this goal. But the Moldovans should not have illusions that they will get everything when the country joins the EU. “The European Union means opportunities and we must work and realize the necessity of making effort. All the prosperous European counties worked hard every day before obtaining the status they have,” said the honorific consul of Slovakia in Chisinau. Europe Days in Moldova will be celebrated in Chisinau and Comrat on May 12-19.
