The average minimum living standard increased to 1,343 lei, as shown by the updated estimates of the National Bureau of Statistics for the first quarter of 2010. The highest value was calculated for employable population – 1,422.4 lei, while pensioners have the lowest one – 1,150.2 lei. The average monthly earnings of an employee are estimated at 2,740.2 lei, twice the minimum living standard. According to NBS, people working in the financial sphere have the MLS covered 3.9 times, unlike farmers, whose wages represent only 93.9% of the MLS. As of April 1, the average monthly pension was 775.9 lei. This means that pensioners have only 67.5% of the MLS ensured. The same indicator for children is estimated at 1,230.9 lei per month. However, figures depend on children’s age: whereas 494 lei is enough for a 1-year-old baby, the MLS for children aged between 7 and 16 years rises to 1,364.8 lei. The minimum living standard is an indicator which establishes the minimum value of products and services necessary for a person’s living during a given amount of time.
