The Moldovans with residence in Italy, but also the Italian citizens residing in the Republic of Moldova will be able to convert their driving licenses. The Cabinet approved the initiation of negotiations on the draft agreement with the government of the Italian Republic for the mutual recognition of driving licenses for conversion purposes, IPN reports.
“The agreement is to facilitate road traffic and ensure mutual recognition of driving licenses issued in the Republic of Moldova and Italy. This will enable the holders of driving licenses issued by the authority of one of the parties, with residence on the territory of the other party, to convert the own driving licenses, without taking theoretical and practical tests, except for special situations,” Minister of the Interior Adrian Efros stated in the Cabinet’s meeting.
According to him, the holders of driving licences will only be entitled to convert their own licences if they have resided on the territory of the other party for at least six years at the time of the application for conversion.
About 300,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova in Italy will benefit from this opportunity, including the naturalized ones or those with dual citizenship.
