The Moldovans working in Italy and Portugal call on the Moldovan authorities to take measures to hasten the adoption of the Antidiscrimination Law, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a an appeal, the diaspora says that though they settled in Portugal, the Moldovans there keep in touch with the country and are sensitive to the events taking place in Moldova. “We share the same approach – we want Moldova to become a modern state with dynamic economy and free from prejudices, which will find its place in the united family of the European states. We are firmly convinced that our country’s future should be connected with the EU,” say the Moldovans in Portugal.
They also say that the joining of the EU implies changes of views and mentality, legislative adjustments, courageous approaches aimed at modifying the reality and achieving the set objectives.
The Moldovans in Italy also call upon the authorities to hasten the adoption of the law. “The discourses and polemics against the antidiscrimination bill aim to hinder the European integration process. But this bill is in perfect compliance with the principle of equality provided in Article 16 of the Constitution of Moldova, which says that the state guarantees the respect and protection of the person. The same article stipulates that all the Moldovan people are equal before the law and the public authorities, regardless of the race, nationality, ethnic origin, language, religion, sex, opinion, political orientation, property or social origin,” the diaspora of the Moldovans in Italy says in its appeal.
It also says that the role of the future law is to ensure constitutional order as regards equality, without which a state and society cannot develop democratically. “Moldova is no longer isolated. We, the citizens of Moldova, must follow the path to development alongside the other free European peoples,” say the Moldovans in Italy.
Earlier, the diaspora of the Moldovans in France also urged the authorities to hasten the adoption of the Antidiscrimination Law. Passing this law is a condition imposed by the EU for liberalizing the visa regime for Moldovan travelers.
