Over 300 people representing the Moldovan diaspora in 24 countries participated on August 18 in the Diaspora Congress, Government secretary Adrian Băluțel told a press briefing on Monday. The subjects discussed this year included lower consular fees, more consular services, business opportunities at home, but also the problems faced by the diaspora and possible solutions.
The event continued with the Diaspora Business Forum on August 19, where participants discussed the programs offered by the Agency for Entrepreneurial Development and the opportunities for involvement in projects implemented in Moldova. “We want to continue this format uninterrupted because we believe in the economic potential of our diaspora”, said Adrian Băluțel. The participants in the Diaspora Business Forum came from 20 countries, being mostly entrepreneurs.
This year, the DOR camp for children from the diaspora was attended by 100 participants, after a three-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic in which the camp was held online. Children from 21 countries met and spent 10 days together, speaking Romanian, meeting with government representatives, discovering the national cuisine and craftsmanship and reconnecting with their homeland. Adrian Băluțel says that the government is considering having more children come to the camp in the future editions.
The official also mentioned the cultural activity that ended the Diaspora Days - the play “We are waiting for you at home”, presented at the Chisinau Railway Station. The theatrical performance addressed the challenges, longing and worries faced by Moldovans in the diaspora, as well as those waiting for them at home.
