The Central Market in Chisinau was crowded on Saturday, April 30 as the people made purchases for Low Sunday. In order to obey all the rules, the Moldovans are ready to spend all the money available. The towels, plates and dishes, domestic appliances, flowers and candies were in great demand and the sellers profited by increasing prices, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“They buy cups and plates more. Not many persons purchase sets. Some of the people take into account the price of the products, while others the quality, depending on their pockets,” said vendor Adelina Rozmerita.
The prices vary according to the producer and quality. The Chinese and Turkish trowels and plates are the cheapest. The plates that cost 7 and 8 lei sell the best. The cups cost between 5 and 30 lei apiece, while the kitchen towels - 10-50 lei. The prices of wreaths range from 20 to 120 lei.
“I sold more blankets and crocheted bedclothes. They will be donated on Low Sunday. They are expensive, but the people buy them,” said seller Valentina Caraman.
Most of those who went to the Central Market had to spend by at least 1,000 lei.
Low Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday and Monday after Easter. The Moldovans go to cemeteries to remember the dead.
