The Government endorsed Moldova’s joining of the International Commission on Civil Status (CIEC). The Parliament is to give its consent as well. The member states undertake to facilitate exchanges of legal texts and any documentation concerning civil status, Info-Prim Neo reports. The civil status laws of the countries of the world impose conditions on the foreigners that want to marry in a given state. Divergences often appear as to the conditions for issuing certificates for legalizing the marriages. The certificate of matrimonial capacity issued in accordance with the CIEC’s regulations standardizes the existent requirements and sets joint standards in the field. The certificate contains the translations into the official languages of the CIEC member states and into English, in invariable symbols. After Moldova joins the Commission, the certificate of matrimonial capacity will be also translated in Romanian. Thus, the Moldovans that want to enter into marriages abroad will not have to pay for translation. The period of time needed to legalize the documents will be reduced. The certificate of matrimonial capacity is issued for a period of 6 months. The CIEC was signed in September 1980. It has ten members counting Germany, Belgium, Spain, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and Turkey.
