The Moldovan citizens arrested in Egypt are expected to come home in the near future, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Deputy Prime Minister said the latest developments are encouraging as all the 11 Moldovans are in a satisfactory condition and were treated appropriately by the Egyptian authorities. He stressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking steps to bring them home. “There are certain levers we can use. We sought help from our partners who have embassies in Egypt,” Iurie Leanca said. The 11 Moldovans are accused of attempt to illegally cross the border. The foreign press reported that the Moldovans asked several Bedouins to help them get to Israel in exchange for US$1,000. Later, the Bedouins asked a double sum for their services and the two camps started to fight. Allegedly, the Moldovans killed a smuggler.
