Only 12% of Moldovans practice sports daily, 27% weekly and 2% monthly. The others go to the gym even less often. The data was presented on Thursday, September 20, by the Ministry of Youth and Sports at a round table on the occasion of the launch of the proposal regarding the Public Policy “On the Increase of the Level of People’s Participation in Sports and Other Physical Activities”, Info-Prim Neo reports. Head of the division for sports institutions and sport for everyone Teodor Danila declared that the participation of people in mass sports was very low. The major causes were the reduced access to open and closed spaces for sport and the underdeveloped culture of sport in Moldova. 61% of respondents said they didn’t practice sports because they didn’t have time to and 21% deem sports useless. People who haven’t practiced sport for years say they are too tired to do physical exercises. Nearly half of respondents think that sport fields aren’t properly equipped. The survey had a sample of 600 people and was carried out in August. At the round table, the participants chose a public policy proposal and namely the direct financing of sport sections for everyone. Minister of Youth and Sports Ion Cebanu declared that the proposal is a document that will be submitted to the Government for approval.
