Moldovans abroad have one more day to preregister for elections

Today is the last day when the Moldovan citizens who are abroad can preregister for the October 20 elections, thus announcing their intention to vote abroad. Today is also the last day when voters from the U.S., Canada, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, and Norway can request a postal vote. In this case, registration is mandatory, IPN reports.

Preregistration is one of the three criteria used by the Central Election Commission to decide the number of polling stations that will be established outside the country for elections.

So far, almost 20,000 Moldovans preregistered on the Commission’s website. Most of them – 7,953 –announced their intention to vote in the Russian Federation. Italy follows with 2,174 Moldovans intending to vote there. The figure for Germany is 1,813, for the United States – 1,252, for Romania – 1,012, for the UK – 909, for France – 879, etc.

As for postal voting that will be implemented in six countries and for which preregistration is mandatory, the number of applications stands at 1,708.
