The access to services of a high quality of the young people in Moldova must be ensured concomitantly with the access to information. Education of a high quality and information represent key aspects in preparing the young people for succeeding in a rapidly changing world and for maintaining a healthy generation. These recommendations are contained in the “State of World Population 2014 Report - the Power of 1.8 Billion: Adolescents, youth and the transformation of the future” that was launched by UNFPA together with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the partners from civil society, IPN reports.

Ion Donea, head of the Youth Policy Section of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, said the young people must be regarded as the Government’s partners, while every partner has the right to negotiate and to say what they want to get.

“By increasing the quality of youth-friendly services, in partnership with UNFPA and other international organizations, we offer consultancy and confidential health services to all the adolescents, based on the quality standards. We must return to comprehensive education for health in schools, including to sexual education of young people,” said Galina Lesco, head of the Center of Youth-Friendly Services “Neovita”.

UNFPA Representative in Moldova Ian McFarlane said that he met very dynamic and talented young people in Moldova. The young people must be supported efficiently. The state must invest in their health and education. The voice of the young people must be heard when decisions affecting them are taken. “I think we will have a healthier and more productive young generation if the young people have access to information and education, including detailed information about sex and reproductive health appropriate to their age,” he stated.

On the occasion of the presentation of the “State of World Population 2014 Report - the Power of 1.8 Billion: Adolescents, youth and the transformation of the future”, there was launched a regional youth campaign entitled “Voice of the Youth – decide the future development priorities”. The campaign will be carried out between November 2014 and September 2015 and will be implemented by youth organizations of Moldova, in partnership with UNFPA.
