Students of the Soroca-based Teacher Training College “Mihai Eminescu” familiarized themselves with the European values and showed their knowledge of the EU in a thematic evening staged by the Foundation for Development of Moldova. This organization is implementing the project “Improving performance of the education system by implementing the analysis of regulation impact and responsible participation of SCOs in education”, which is part of the Moldova Partnerships for Sustainable Civil Society Project.

Olga Gordila, project coordinator at the Foundation for Development of Moldova, has told IPN that the project they implement includes a component within which they disseminate information about the EU in four education institutions, namely the Soroca Teacher Training College “Mihai Eminescu”, the Rascani Agro-Industrial College, the Cahul Teacher Training and Industrial College, and the Comrat Teacher Training College “Mihail Ciachir”.

In Soroca, four teams of students took part in an intellectual game with questions about the EU. They spoke about the European history, the EU capital cities, the European cuisine, culture and values. Afterward, there was shown a film about how the education system of Moldova is being improved with the EU assistance. As a result, there was held an open debate where the young people stated their opinions about particular proposals concerning the education system.

The debate was followed by performances of dances and songs of countries close to the Moldovans as work or tourist destination. There were shown Bulgarian and Italian folk dances and sung French songs. The performances were accompanied by informative films about the given countries screened in the background.

Olga Gordila said the young people scored many points in the intellectual game and this was a pleasant surprise for the public, which found out new information about the EU.

Such events will be organized in another three education institutions. The national campaign “Europe for You”, which centers on Moldova’s European course, is carried out as part of the Moldova Partnerships for Sustainable Civil Society Project that is implemented by FHI 360 and financed by USAID.
