The National Sports Agency has confirmed on Friday Moldova's national women's handball team will not be able to compete in the European Championship qualifying stage due to money shortages, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Earlier, Moldovan Handball Federation (MHF) secretary Nicolae Vizitiu has stated that the participation involves costs of about 100,000 euros, an insurmountable financial effort both for the Federation and the National Sports Agency.
According to MHF officials, another obstacle obstructing Moldova's way to the European Championship is the absence of a proper sports venue to host home matches.
The decision to withdraw form the competition meant losing 18,000 euros paid as registration fee.
Moldova was supposed to play in a group with Iceland, Macedonia, Estonia, Belgium and Norway.
