The reduced access to finances, unfavorable fiscal policy and disloyal competition are only some of the obstacles to the development of businesses managed by women, shows a study made by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The study covered a sample of 20 women who are beneficiaries of the BAS program, IPN reports.

EBRD BAS Moldova program specialist Nadejda Mustea told a news conference that according to the study, the limited access to finances is caused by personal and professional impediments. The women questioned within the study said the financial institutions have a different attitude to men and women in the provision of lending services. On the other hand, the banks say the women are more responsible and precautious when they apply for a loan. The study also revealed that the businesswomen do not trust the institutions providing lending services, especially the commercial banks.

Nadejda Mustea said that most of the women entrepreneurs expressed their readiness to develop a business with the help of financial services, on condition that they will benefit from more information. The women who earlier took out loans said the financial institutions should ensure better communication and provide more information, while conditions of lending money for businesses must be transparent.

The study was carried out within the EBRD program Business Advisory Services, with support from the Government of Sweden.
