More than 20 wine producers from Moldova presented their products at an exhibition in Warsaw, Poland. The event was staged by the National Office of Vine and Wine with the aim of promoting the Moldovan wines abroad. As many as 120 types of wine were presented at the cultural center “Zacheta” Art Gallery on October 28, IPN reports.

Deputy head of the National Office of Vine and Wine Vitalie Panuta told a news conference that the exhibition was aimed at diversifying the export markets for wine under the “Wine of Moldova” brand and at extending the existing markets, especially the EU market. “Our goal was to show another image of the Moldovan wines to the Polish people – wines of a high quality that are not yet well-known on the European markets,” he stated.

Diana Lazar, vice director of the USAID Competitiveness Enhancement and Enterprise Development Project II, said the exhibit included a masterclass for journalists and opinion leaders and a business-to-business (B2B) event with wine tasting events for importers, wine distributors and representatives of specialized networks. Poland was chosen for mounting this exhibition because the current capacity of its market is 75-77 million liters of wine, while consumption per capita is 2.65 liters and continues to increase. Poland is also a country that exports wine.

The Moldovan wines were presented by the famous Polish sommelier Tomasz Kolecki Majewicz, who has held the title of the Best Sommelier of Poland for four years. The next exhibits will be staged in China, Slovakia, Romania, and the Czech Republic.

In the first eight moths of this year, Moldova exported 3.1 million liters of bottled wine, by 9% more than in the corresponding period last year. Wine exports came to 16% of the total exports.
