The second edition of the Moldovan Wine Day was held in the Portuguese municipality Oeiras, at the Marques de Pombal Palace, on November 18, IPN reports, quoting a press release.

The goal was to promote the high-quality Moldovan wines and national gastronomy among the Portuguese people and the Moldovan diaspora.

The event was staged by the couple Simion and Viorica Croitoru, who settled in Portugal 16 years ago, with the support of Oeiras municipality, the Vinho de Carcavelos brotherhood and with the voluntary cooperation of the Association “Miorita” and the Association “Esti” of Spain.

The event involved over 100 businessmen who work in the wine industry and trade and business entities of the diaspora as well as Moldova’s Ambassador to Portugal Dumitru Socolan, representatives of the Oeiras municipal authorities and Portuguese bloggers from the field.

Attending the event, Ambasdafor Dmitri Socolan reiterated the Moldovan Government’s commitment to strengthen the bilateral relations and intensify the commercial-economic cooperation between Moldova and Portugal. He underlined the importance of the involvement of representatives of the diaspora in the economic development of the native country and the necessity of taking an active part in the events that promote the national customs and traditions.

“It is very important to promote the Moldovan products through the agency of the diaspora because, with the assistance of our nationals who are abroad and the people of the host country, we can obtain a double result,” stated Simion Croitoru.

The Moldovan Wine Day in Portugal was organized within the Diaspora Engagement Hub program of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations in partnership with the International Organization for Migration’s Mission to Moldova and with the financial assistance of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
