Moldovan weightlifters win 15 medals at World University Championships

The Moldovan weightlifters performed well at the World University Championships that ends today, November 9, in Eilat, Israel. In the last day of the competition, Adrian Zbarnea won 3 silver medals in the 105 kg category. He occupied the second place with the overall result of 368 kg, and also came second in the snatch competition (168 kg) and clean and jerk (200 kg). The 22 year old’s result was bested by Russia’s Gennay Muratov. Moldova’s other 8 representatives in the competition obtained good results as well. Igor Bour (56 kg) became absolute champion. Ghenadie Dudoglo (62 kg), Artiom Popa (69 kg) and Gheorghe Cernei (85 kg) won silver medals, while Dumitru Captaru (77 kg) won bronze. Andrei Birca occupied the 4th place, Alexandr Satalenco 7th and Natalia Priscepa was 6th in the women’s contest. Overall, the Moldovans won 4 gold medals, 8 silver and 3 bronze. 2012 has been an exceptional year for Moldovan weightlifters. At the London Olympics, Cristina Iovu and Anatol Caracu both obtained bronze medals.
