The World Weightlifting Championships held in Kazakhstan didn’t end very well for the Moldovan athletes. Artiom Pipa took the best position among them. He ranked eighth in the 77kg class, IPN reports.

Four athletes took the ninth position. These are: Ion Tarna (62kg class), Adrian Zbarnea (105kg class), Natalia Prishcepa (75kg class), and Anatol Ciricu (94kg class). Ciricu even needed medical care after he failed an attempt. The other athletes also didn’t impress. Alexandru Dudoglo ranked 13th, Oleg Sirghi - 14th, Ghenadie Dudoglo – 18th, while Serghei Cechir abandoned the competition.

The championships that took place in Almaty were the first qualifying round for the 2016 Olympic Games. One more competition will take place next year. The athletes who will go to Rio de Janeiro will be chosen there. The Olympic quotas will depend on the position taken in the general team rankings.
