The Unionist Movement of the Republic of Moldova (MURM) regrets the refusal of the right-winged social-political forces and national-patriotic NGOs to join a single movement. MURM chairman, Ilie Bratu, has told MURM Republican Council’s extended assembly, held on Sunday, August 13, that the failure to gather all those who consider themselves unionists “under the same umbrella” is their refusal to understand that Moldova’s European integration is possible only through uniting with the “motherland”, i.e. Romania. MURM leader says that previously several movements were ready to sign a Declaration supporting Romanian President Traian Basescu’s initiative, among them the Romanians’ Democratic Forum, led by Nicolae Dabija. Then they stepped back and now plead for Moldova’s integration as a separate state, this way taking “the separatists’ side”. Mr. Bratu announced that MURM is continuing to collect signatures supporting Basescu’s initiative, thus strengthening the Moldovan unionists’ movement. The Unionist Movement of the Republic of Moldova was born in November 2005 at its Constituting Conference. MURM pleads for reuniting with Romania and for a joint European integration in 2007. The second MURM congress is scheduled for this fall.
