A Moldovan-Ukrainian working group will be constituted to analyze the situation and propose measures to further ensure the right of the communities of national minorities in the two states to study in schools in the mother tongue. Such an agreement was reached by the ministers of education of the two states Monica Babuc and Lilia Grinevich in a meeting in Kyiv, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of Moldova, Monica Babuc voiced hope that the measures taken to implement the new education law in Ukraine will not limit the national minorities’ right to study in the mother tongue.
At the same time, Ukrainian minister of education Lilia Grinevich underlined the Ukrainian authorities’ commitment to ensure the right to study in the mother tongue of persons who belong to the national minorities. She expressed her readiness to step up the bilateral dialogue, including by involving specialists of the two ministries.
The parliament of Ukraine recently adopted a new education law that provides that education in Ukraine will be in the official language only. The first stage of the reform is to be implemented from September 1, 2018.
