Moldovan tennis players suffer defeats

Only one Moldovan tennis player will continue to contest in the men’s competition of the international tournament “Dmitrie Sturza Trophy” that is taking place in Chisinau this week. Alexandru Cozbinov qualified for the second round after beating Ukraine’s Anatoliy Lashkul 6-4, 6-1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the next round, Cozbinov will meet British man Callum Poland-Smith, who is the fifth favorite of the competition. The other Moldovan tennis players - Alexandr Rudenko, Mario Calmic, and Iasha Bishir - were eliminated from the competition.
Moldova’s Alina Soltanici, Alisa Martynov, Ana Testemitanu, and Daniela Ciobanu will enter the competition today, February 13.
The international tournament “Dmitrie Sturza Trophy” has been organized in Chisinau since 2000. The last time the Moldovan tennis players were victorious at this competition in 2011, when Maxim Dubarenco became the winner. In the previous competitions, Moldova’s champions were Andrei Gorban, Alexandru Andronachi, Denis Molceanov, and Radu Albot.
