Moldovan open-water swimmer Ion Lazarenko Tiron has crossed the Catalina Channel in the United States, IPN reports.

On his Facebook page, the Moldovan wrote that he is happy to have conquered the fourth of the seven straits that he wants to swim across. He swam almost 35 km. So far he managed to cross the Strait of Gibraltar, the English Channel and the North Channel.

In 1997, the Moldovan emigrated with his wife to Ireland and in over ten years started to practice swimming so as to recover after surgery. He then decided to swim long distances in open water.

Ion Lazarenko Tiron’s next destination is the Molokai Channel in Hawaii, which is 43 km in width.
