The export of sugar from Moldova will be stooped. Such an agreement was reached by two leading sugar producers on February 15, as a result of a meeting of the Council on Product held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. The producers say the prices will not rise. On the country, they may go down, Info-Prim Neo reports. After the closed-door meeting with sugar producers, Agriculture Minister Vasile Bumacov said that the sugar should not be exported as the demands on the home market should be satisfied. “It is good when the companies reach agreements in a civilized way. We will do what we can to support these two sugar producers so that they continue investing,” said the official. Alexander Koss, a representative of Südzucker Moldova, said the volume of stored up sugar is sufficient for satisfying the country’s needs until the new harvest. The prices will not rise. The agreement reached by the two companies will contribute to a stable situation and will calm things down. The representative of Magd-Vest Petru Gutuleac said there are no reasons for increasing sugar prices. The last time, the price of sugar was raised about a month ago, by 0.60 lei to 12 lei/kg. The rise was determined by the large sugar exports.
