Moldovan students to simulate work within UN

More than 150 students from 30 high schools of Moldova will be delegates of different countries and will simulate work within the United Nations (UN). They will participate in the third edition of the national conference “The United Nations Model - 2008” that will be held in Chisinau between March 14 and 16, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The event is organized by the Student Alliance of Moldova in partnership with the Peace Corps Moldova with resources from the United States Embassy in Moldova and the Moldovan Ministry of Education and Youth.
According to organizers, “The United Nation Model” aims to educate the participants on efficient communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy.
The students will work in committees: the UN Security Council, the United Nations Fund for Drug Abuse Control, the UN Human Rights Council, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Conference on Disarmament.
During two days, the participants will present their homework prepared in groups. Besides, they will deliver individual communications. The best will get awards.
The opening conference will be attended by the guest of honor, the resident representative of UNDP and resident coordinator of the UN in Moldova, Kaarina Immonen. The Deputy Public Affairs Officer of the U.S Embassy in Moldova Sharon Ketchum will be invited to the closing ceremony.
