Evaluation of the progress of the Republic of Moldova in implementation of the adherence conditions to Council of Europe from 1995 should be the topic of a common report with participation of representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. According to a press release of the Parliament, this initiative of the speaker Marian Lupu was presented during the meeting on Monday, October 2, with the PACE president, Rene van der Linden.
“The case of the Republic of Moldova will be discussed next year in February, during the next meeting of PACE. I believe elaborating such a report could become an important step in the development of our dialogue and collaboration”, Marian Lupu stated.
Head of the Moldovan Legislative body also declared that the Scheduled actions program will be executed by the Parliament by the end of this year, after the opinion of the CE regarding several law drafts, already approved in the first lecture, will be received. Another important task in the Parliamentary activity will be the implementation monitoring, as of 2007, of laws approved, and also the parliament must continue to adapt the Moldovan legislation to European standards and norms, Marian Lupu declared.
President of the PACE Rene van der Linden saluted the progress in the activity of the Moldovan Parliament, and mentioned the importance of law draft approval and implementation. The important directions mentioned by the European parliament are the civil society, mass-media, and justice system.
“The reform implementation process has only begun and I consider it to be on the right track”, Marian Lupu underlined. As an example he mentioned the modifications to the 2005 Elections Code, modification of the Central Election Committee structure, the recent approval of the new Audiovisual Code, which, according to the speaker, will be implemented by the end of this year.
The counterparts decided that the technical details of the common report will be discussed on Monday night with the PACE representatives for the Republic of Moldova, Josette Durrieu and Egidijus Vareikis.
PACE takes place during October 2-6 in Strasbourg. The agenda on the Assembly, amongst others, contains the implementation of the CEDO decisions, the Balkan and Kosovo situation, illegal immigration etc. The PACE is also attended by a parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Moldova.
