The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) marks 15 years since its foundation. Among the accomplishments of the Party the socialists claim over 10,000 members, territorial structures in 28 districts, as well as tens of councilors in villages, districts and municipalities, reports Info-Prim Neo. PSRM leader Igor Dodon stated, in a press conference on July 2, that PSRM’s goal for the next period is the consolidation of Moldovan state status and identity. The Socialists will promote the federalization of Moldova as the only viable solution for re-gaining territorial integrity. The Party will promote the Euro-Asian direction and good relations with Russia as warrants for interethnic and social cohesion. Meanwhile, the PSRM wants to rid the country’s rule from unionist-Liberals through governmental reform, and in Chisinau a referendum for Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca’s demission will be organized. Igor Dodon added that the Party will search for legal channels for introducing the discipline “History of Moldova” instead of “History of Romania” in schools, and will ask for the demission of the Minister of Education. Additionally, the Socialists will insist on the demission of the Minister of Internal Affairs, for reinstating order in the society. One of the PSRM’s achievements for the last six months is, according to Igor Dodon, the Party’s success in canceling the organization of a constitutional referendum for the simplification of the president election procedure, proposed by Mihai Ghimpu. They did not allow Mihai Ghimpu to become the Parliament’s Speaker, conditioned the election of a President unaffiliated to any Party, and avoided repeated Parliamentary elections, said Igor Dodon. Party’s general secretary Valetin Crilov stated that among the Party’s first achievements are the development and evolution of the socialist ideals in Moldova, as early as Moldova’s declaration of independence, which allowed the formation of a left political wing. Also, the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova was signed with the participation of Socialist representatives, on August 27, 1991, and the contry’s Constitution on July 29, 1994. Igor Dodon was elected president of the PSRM at the Party’s 10th extraordinary congress, on December 18, 2011. The Party’s foundation congress took place on June 29, 1997. Co-presidents of the Party were elected Veronica Abramciuc, who at the moment of election was Director General of the Government’s National Relations Department, and Eduard Smirnov, who at the moment of the election was deputy Mayor.
