“The only solution for achieving results and objectives at interstate level is to maintain the relations in the scientific, cultural, social and all the other areas,” the first vice president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Teodor Furdui said at the fourth CIS Intellectuality Forum that was hosted Friday by the Academy's Library, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Moldovan scientist said that the poor qualifications of the young staff is one of the major problems faced by the CIS countries. “It is an acute problem in all the countries as the young people today do not show great interest in exact sciences and natural sciences, without which the society has no future. One of the causes for such a situation is the shortage of financial resources,” Teodor Furdui said, urging the scientific communities to ask the administrations in their countries to allocated more resources for the youth. He refereed especially to the contribution of Russia, which, according to him, could do more as part of the cooperation in science and culture with Moldova. “It's a pity that Russia does not do much for this cooperation. At a certain moment, Russia left us and we remained alone. Russia only organizes, but does not cooperate to the extent to which we would like. It should share a part of its resources as it has greater possibilities”. For his part, Andrei Petrov, chairman of the Committee for the Coordination of Work with the Youth in Science and Education under the Russian President, said that Russia makes everything possible to provide financial assistance and the resources that Moldova needs. Teodor Furdui replied that Sweden, Germany and other countries support Moldova by organizing internships for Moldovan young people and providing scholarships for them, but Russia does not offer support. Gheorghi Laptev, representative of the Moscow State University, expressed his optimism about the future cooperation in education between the CIS states. “I'm sure that the forum will produce good results in the area of science as well. We will work out an innovative program that will be discussed at the next CIS Intellectuality Forum that will be held in Moscow,” he said
