The relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation are currently not in an ideal state, but there are no problems that cannot be solved between the two states, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the State Duma of Russia Konstantin Kosachev stated in a meeting with Moldova’s Ambassador in Moscow Andrei Neguța, IPN reports.

The Russian official expressed his conviction that society wants the relations to improve. “If there is will on the part of both sides, we can count on an advance,” noted Kosachev, being quoted by TASS News Agency.

According to him, meetings between the two Presidents take place constantly, but the relations at parliamentary level are practically frozen. “From our viewpoint, this is not normal. We surely hoped that changes will occur in this regard after the parliamentary elections held in the Republic of Moldova. We understand that the new composition of Parliament hasn’t yet started work. The development of the relations between our states will depend on the political picture in the republic,” said Konstantin Kosachev.

Ambassador Andrei Neguța voiced hope that when the new executive bodies are constituted in Chisinau, the informative note issued by the Moldovan side, by which the functionaries are recommended to avoid making visits to Russia, will be annulled. “If would be very good for our relations if such issues disappear when the new Parliament starts work. The effects of this note of March 9, 2017 should be history and we should start in a different way together with the new power, the new branches of power that will be constituted,” stated the ambassador.
