The national men’s rugby-7 squad ranked last in the first stage of the 2011 European Grand Prix played in Lyon, France, Info-Prim Neo reports. The 12 most powerful countries of the continent are taking part in the competition. In the qualifying round, the Moldovan team lost all the matches: to France (54-7), Italy (26-19), England (45-0), Russia (36-7), and the Wales (19-17). Finishing last, Veaceslav Bulai’s students continued the battle for the 9th-12th positions, but were again defeated by Ukraine (36-5) and Romania (33-7) and ranked 12th in the final. The next rounds of the 2011 European Grand Prix will take place in Moscow (June 25-26), Barcelona (July 9-10), and Bucharest (July 16-17). Moldova is taking part in a competition of such a scale for the first time.
