Moldovan-Romanian memorandums in education, justice, digitization and defense

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Energy of Romania signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in energy security today. Under the document, the sides will agree the joint actions that will be taken to prevent and handle crisis situations related to the supply of energy or natural gas to Romania and the Republic of Moldova and during six months will agree a joint plan of action and solidarity measures in case of energy crisis.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of National Defense of Romania signed a protocol on cooperation in military education, while the Ministries of Education of the two states signed a protocol of cooperation for 2022-2026. By this protocol, Romania will offer assistance in modernizing the education system of the Republic of Moldova. During the next four years, Romania will annually assign teachers of different specialties to work in Moldovan education institutions. Also, the two states will offer places to study at pre-university and higher education establishments without tuition and with or without a scholarship.

Another memorandum is designed to extend cooperation in digital transformation in different areas, such as: development of electronic public services; automation of administrative processes; interoperability of informatics systems between Moldova and Romania; mutual recognition of electronic signatures; implementation of platforms and digital infrastructure; cybersecurity; facilitation  of investments and innovative entrepreneurship in information technology.

Minister of Home Affairs Ana Revenco and her Romanian counterpart Lucian-Nicolae Bode signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Internal Affairs in a move to promote bilateral security initiatives and to develop cooperation in the main areas of common interest. There was also signed a plan of cooperation in professional formation between the two ministries for 2022.

The plan of action in the justice sector for 2022-2024 is another document that was signed in Chisinau today. This sets down joint measures aimed at preventing and fighting corruption and organized crime so as to strengthen the rule of law and implement the justice sector reform, taking into account Romania’s experience in the process of reforming the justice system before and after its entry into the European Union.
