The action plan for implementing the Joint Statement on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership between Romania and Moldova for Moldova’s Integration into the EU is based on a series of projects carried out jointly by the governments of the two states. One of the most important is the project in the energy sector, Victor Chirila, adviser to Prime Minister Vlad Filat on foreign policy matters, has told Info-Prim Neo. The implementation of the measures stipulated in the agreement will start with the connection of Moldova’s natural gas pipelines to Romania’s. There will be built the Ungheni-Iasi gas pipeline. The two executives discussed the political dialogue and the social, cultural and economic cooperation. But the most important fact is that the dialogue acquired a more intense practical content, said Victor Chirila. According to the foreign policy expert, the construction of the Falciu-Gotesti high voltage power line and other connections will be an important step towards connecting Moldova to the European infrastructure. The two governments also discussed the possibility of continuing providing scholarships to Moldovan students, cooperation in making the feasibility study ENTSOE (European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) and the project to build at least two modern bridges over the Prut. “We cannot have intense commercial cooperation relations if we are detached from the European infrastructure. I mean the roads, bridges, railroads, the power lines and gas pipes,” said Victor Chirila. As to the financing of the discussed projects, he stated that both the Government of Moldova and the European Union will make contributions. The action plan was negotiated for about a year and was signed by Prime Ministers Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu and Vlad Filat in Iasi on March 3. There were also signed a number of interministerial cooperation treaties.
