Moldovan-Romanian commission for European integration met after two years

 After a pause of two years, the Moldovan-Romanian intergovernmental commission for European integration came together for the fourth session in Chisinau on May 19. The sides agreed to continue the projects under implementation and to focus on the priorities aimed at supporting the European course of the Republic of Moldova. The sides also agreed to support the police reform by sharing the experience and good practices for developing the Common Center for Training Law Enforcement Bodies and capitalizing on the cooperation platforms existing in justice, IPN reports.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniela Morari said that even if no formal meetings were held during the two years, Romania continued to provide assistance and expertize to the Republic of Moldova. “The resumption of the commission’s work was a good occasion for strengthening the relations of cooperation between the competent bodies of Moldova and Romania and for agreeing common priorities that would contribute to implementing Moldova’s commitments that derive from the Association Agreement with the European Union,” said Daniela Morari.

Minister Delegate for European Affairs of Romania Ana Birchall said the European integration the strategic objective of the cooperation between the two states. “This is the only option that can bring freedom ad prosperity to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of age, ethnicity, spoken language and religious beliefs. Romania remains firmly committed to support this objective,” stated Ana Birchall.

The meeting involved representatives of 12 relevant institutions of the two states. The next session of the Moldovan-Romanian intergovernmental commission for European integration is to be held in Bucharest in the second half of 2017.
