Moldovan Railways states that its priority remains settling the salary arrears of 4,997 employees, which amount to 156,863,500 lei, accumulated between August and December 2024. The state enterprise "Calea Ferata din Moldova" (CFM) clarifies that it is undergoing reorganization and continues to seek solutions to address the company’s economic and financial situation, IPN reports.

"We are already implementing measures to reduce costs, increase revenue, and improve customer services. We are working on modernizing infrastructure to meet market demands and regain travelers' trust," CFM emphasized.

The State Secretary for Transport at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Mircea Păscăluță, stated that a concrete plan has already been developed, focusing on two essential directions to transform CFM into a modern and sustainable company.

"The recovery plan for CFM includes a mechanism for allocating subsidies for railway infrastructure maintenance and passenger transport services, which will be implemented in line with European best practices. We aim to transform CFM into a reliable partner for passengers and the economy," the State Secretary noted.

The Public Property Agency (APP) pointed out that, amidst escalating financial and administrative challenges, it has repeatedly notified the company, clearly advising CFM's management team to capitalize on unused assets, control losses from theft, and address poor property management. Nevertheless, the precarious situation has worsened, the APP stated.

The agency announced the creation of a censor commission and an audit committee to actively identify the company’s issues. "These tools will help uncover the full picture of CFM’s administrative and financial reality. Our goal is to increase transparency and make CFM more efficient," the agency added.

The Railway Workers' Federation of the Republic of Moldova announced that starting in February, it will organize protests and strikes in front of the Parliament, Government, Presidency, as well as at all eight railway hubs across the country, demanding an immediate resolution to the salary arrears issue.
