Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said that the impact on Moldova of the slowdown in economic growth in the Euroregion will not be dramatic. The Moldovan products and services can be more competitive on the European market if it is affected by crisis. At the same time, the Russian market, alongside such new markets as China, may partially compensate for the loss of export positions in Europe. The statement was made in a meeting with members of Trade Club Moldova on April 24, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Trade Club Moldova brings together 27 economic counselors of embassies working in Moldova and honorific consuls of different countries. According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Economy, the members of Trade Club Moldova enquired especially about the prospects of the privatization process, the stability of the relations with Russia, including in the area of natural gas supply, the developments in the negotiations on the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the EU.
The Ministry of Economy proposed excluding about 100 companies from the list of companies that cannot be privatized. There will be taken another political decision concerning they way in which the private companies will be able to take part in the development of these companies – either by privatization or by establishing public-private partnerships. Valeriu Lazar said that the Government does not divide the investors into national and foreign ones. It is important that they make goods and provide services of a high quality and provide workplaces, while the state will create appropriate conditions for a healthy and transparent competition on the market.
The minister said that while negotiating the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the EU, they will try to establish a balance between the interests of companies and consumers so that the first become more competitive on the EU market and on the home market, while the consumers enjoy products and services of a high quality. The Ministry of Economy is implementing a series of projects aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the national economic entities, including by co-financing feasibility studies in different areas, instituting quality management systems and modernizing the production equipment.
