The Moldovan winemakers are victims of a political game of Russia. The poor quality of the Moldovan wine products wasn’t confirmed by lab analysis and official documents. The exporters of fruit can be the next victims of this game, consider invitees of the program Replica of the TV channel Prime, IPN reports.
According to the director of the Guild of Wine Makers of Moldova Viorel Garaz, the commercial relations are between the exporters and importers, not between the states. “Even if irregularities were identified, penalties should have been imposed on the producers to blame, not on the whole country,” said Viorel Garaz. He also said that the European countries never had objections to the quality of the Moldovan products.
Economic analyst Vasarion Cheshuev said the embargo imposed by Rospotrebnadzor should worry the authorities, which should toughen up the measures to supervise the quality of the wine. “The buyer is always right,” he stated, adding that it is Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov who should solve the problems with Moscow. According to him, wines made by more countries appeared on the Russian market lately and the version that the embargo was influenced by other states that want to win a larger share of the Russian market should not be excluded.
Political analyst Viorel Ciubotaru said the Moldovan products meet the universal standards and this thing proves that the producers are victims of a Russian political game. “No minister should go to Moscow. It is the problem not of Russia and Moldova, but of Russia and the EU, which is solved through us. We are the victims,” he stated. He added that the EU provides support in this difficult situation and the Moldovan producers feel it.
On September 10, Russian consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor imposed a ban on the imports of Moldovan wines, arguing they do not meet the quality standards.
