Acting Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca met in Brussels with the new President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and expressed his hope that cooperation between Moldova and the EU would continue in a similarly constructive manner, IPN reports.

The government in Chisinau announced that the two officials discussed about the priorities of Moldova's European agenda and the goals for the further dialogue between Moldova and the EU. The two parties remarked that the parliamentary ballot on November 30 highlighted Moldova's stake on the continuation of European integration and the prospect to join the EU.

Iurie Leanca said that one of the key priorities of the government is to continue domestic reforms and to obtain the EU members' approval for Moldova to become a candidate for accession. The outgoing Prime Minister noted that the focus of the government will be on finalizing the reform of justice, improving the fight against corruption, assuring economic growth and the stability of the financial and banking sectors and continuing the decentralization reform. “The EU's monitoring and pressure will be just as important as its assistance to Moldova in carrying out these reforms”, stated Leanca.

Donald Tusk supported the PM's position and stressed that the swift implementation of reforms is necessary in order to make Moldova's European path irreversible. Tusk said he would continue to support Moldova in accomplishing its goals in his new position as President of the European Council. The official also expressed his openness for a visit to Moldova in the upcoming months, before the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga in May 2015.
